Sheffield Castle - De Busli
There had been widespread resistance to the Norman's in the North of England resulting in the savage suppression of the region.
By the end of William's reign, in 1087, most of the estates in Yorkshire had been transferred from Anglo-Saxon to Norman lordship.
Roger de Busli became Sheffield's first Norman lord of the manor and, according to the Domesday Book, had been granted many estates in Yorkshire including Sheffield, Hallam and Attercliffe.
